Maris and Ryan had their wedding at the University of Washington (UW) Center for Urban Horticulture. As the title suggests, it has a gorgeous blend of urban and garden.
What I loved most about these two, from the moment I met them, was the happiness they exude. They have such a love and joy for life, one another, and their family and friends. I honestly can say, that this seems to be the secret sauce to a beautiful and memorable wedding.
The couple planned to have their wedding out in the garden, but rain was in the forecast. At the last minute they decided to move the ceremony into the venue’s giant glass greenhouse. They threw up a sheet as a makeshift alter backdrop, and carried on unscathed. If you are looking for an outdoor venue in seattle on a rainy day, the UW Center for Urban Horticulture is your spot. The greenhouse allows you to be essentially outside, even in the rain. Beyond the greenhouse the venue has countless other spots where guests can gather and take photos while also staying dry.
The ceremony itself was emotional for pretty much everyone in the room, myself included : ). Very few dry eyes… For their reception they had El Camion (a local Mexican restaurant and food truck) served an unlimited amount of tacos, enchiladas, tamales, etc. After dinner, they held toasts in the greenhouse which further reinforced all of the wonderful things I had already gathered about the pair. After a quick cutting of the cake and the night ended with an amazing dance party involving not just friends but all levels of family!
Maris and Ryan’s wedding was absolutely one of the most special I’ve been to. I was on the verge of tears and laughter the whole day, and even while I was there I knew it was a special one I would think back on and wish we could relive. It was effortless, joy filled, and everything I hope my wedding to be.
If there is one thing I want future couples to take away from this blog and this wedding, it’s that you don’t have to have an overly designed or Pinterest-y wedding for it to be absolutely amazing, beautiful, and truly unforgettable. Figure out what is important to you, put your energy into those things (maybe it’s your dress, maybe it’s a taco truck, maybe it’s the bar) and don’t stress about the rest!
Thank you to Maris and Ryan for being so wonderful to work with and for inspiring Nick and I to not sweat the small stuff and really remember why we are doing this thing in the first place :). Cheers! Xo
